Viewing Notes:

School teacher and amateur naturalist Dorothy Maxey films schoolchildren at Dereham Church First School as they work in the classroom and visit a variety of local attractions and sites of historical interest. The commentary provided by the filmmaker illustrates how such activities support learning and development, sparking creativity within the children. The accompanying voiceover also demonstrates the filmmaker’s extensive knowledge of nature and wildlife, evident within many of Maxey’s amateur films. The children are seen collecting conkers, playing pooh sticks, and observing the natural environment in and around the school grounds. They also visit a local wildlife park where they encounter some of the more exotic animals native to other countries.
