They visited the modern and the old parts of the cities, the waterfront, historic places, fish market, shop windows, amusement areas, countryside and rural settlements and villages. "A community service in filming the activities of the George E. Slye School in East Hartford, Conn. We start with the young boys and girls on the playground, their orderly return to the classrooms. Then we visit the first and second grades to observe the teaching and learning methods. There is a lunch room, a dispensary, and an audio hearing test center. All learn to sing, blending their young voices in the classroom. Those who have the interest, are taught to use musical instruments and an appreciation of the drama. "We visit Niagara Falls, Niagara River, cable car across the whirlpool rapids, Maid of the Mist, and beneath the falls. The panorama changes as the sun moves west, climaxing an orange to pink flow upon the falls. As the sun fades, color lights play upon this water spectacle. As the seasons advance, the changing foliage forecasts the approaching winter when most of the water becomes white ice and frozen spray. Soon, the onset of spring covers the landscape with many blooms and the falls are again full, to beckon visitors with fascination" PSA Journal, Oct. 1962, 35.
"An experimental abstraction of dancing patterns of a kaleidoscope. The colors, patterns, and designs change to the tempo of accompanying music. The mechanics of the kaleidoscope patterns appear to come from a triangular tunnel formed by three mirrors, with the camera at one end and the subject material at the other. At one point there appears either a glass rod or a bottle neck which adds to the fantasy of designs" PSA Journal, Oct. 1962, 34-35.
"Down the Colorado River from Hite to the junction of the San Juan River in Colorado, via a power boat. This is a camping, sightseeing adventure in the deep canyons of the river. We are acquainted with the preparations for this trip Along the scenic canyon way of picturesque land and rock formations we stop to search out some of the birds, lizards, flora, and other life of interest to the nature lover. The placid and rugged beauty of this area contains some of the old Indian caves. From one of the campsites we go by foot to the famous Rainbow Bridge, a natural arch span of more than 300 feet. "An abstraction made by scratching patterns on black and white film with a needle. The clear areas were tinted with acetate dyes - thus adding color. The visual images are fitted to the mood and tempo of a commercial recording. The film was made without the use of a camera and required no developing. A novel presentation. This will be blown up to 16mm and will be included in the Package," PSA Journal, Oct. 1962, 35.
"Wood block printing is one of the highest forms of art in Japan. It was first introduced into that country 2000 years ago, from China. With hammer and chisel, various cuts are made in the wood block to create the pattern to be printed. A separate block is cut for each hue. The form of each block is inked and impressed upon the paper or cloth or obtain the complete print. The picture takes us gently stimulate our interest in the art of wood block printing. we are privileged to see some of the exquisite prints. The narrator's voice with its oriental flavor adds a delightful touch to the picture. This will be included in the Package" PSA Journal, Oct. 1962, 34.
