Button Ballet

Date produced: 1967

Filmmaker(s):

Albert Noble

Description:

"Button Ballet is a nifty little piece of animation. A number of buttons do a ballet set to Brahms music in one of the most masterfully executed animation films ever seen in this competition" PSA Journal, Aug. 1967, 36.

Kokanee Salmon, The

Date produced: 1967

Description:

"The Kokanee Salmon is a fine documentary on the raising of this little known species of salmon. We see how the eggs are collected an subsequently fertilized, and later how the little fish are let loose in the stream to end up on some lucky fisherman's hook. It was declared the best documentary film, and also won the MPD Nature Film Award" PSA Journal, Aug. 1967, 36.

La Reata

Date produced: 1967

Filmmaker(s):

Victor Brown

Description:

"La Reata depicts a lost art, that of making a lariat or lasso. The cowhide is stretched and staked out on the ground to dry. Then, with a long circular cut, a rawhide rope is made, cured, then braided to form the rope used in this fast disappearing custom. A leisurely pace gives the film much of its charm, plus a narrator who is in no rush - a welcome change" PSA Journal, Aug. 1967, 36.

Stray, The

Date produced: 1967

Filmmaker(s):

Marjorie Martin

Description:

"The Stray is a well written little story concerning a lonely little woman who returns to her husband, but finds he wants no more to do with her, for reasons explained as the story unfolds. Its ring of sincerity, coupled with good acting on the part of both the woman and her husband, was most surely the primary basis for the film landing in the top ten" PSA Journal, Aug. 1967, 36.

There Was a Tramp

Date produced: 1967

Description:

"There Was a Tramp has, at first fade-in, a similarity to other tramp pictures, but the life breathed into the main character is what brings this film out of the ordinary and sets it apart from the rest. The story line becomes almost secondary to the acting of the tramp and his portrayal" PSA Journal, Aug. 1967, 36.

201-203

Date produced: 1967

Filmmaker(s):

Krishna Shah

Description:

"201-203 tells the simple story of man and woman, the alienated anti-heroes from two civilizations at the opposite ends of the spectrum, Asian and America. They try to make contact, through reality as well as fantasy, against a backdrop of technology and pop theology. Well acted and well photographed" PSA Journal, Aug. 1967, 36.

Adventures of Herman, The

Date produced: 1967

Filmmaker(s):

R. Abbott

D. Willmott

Description:

"The Adventures of Herman are not unlike those of Mickey Mouse, for although Herman may be of the same species, he is a bit bigger - just enough bigger to irritate the owner of the house in which he resides. Herman is about ten inches tall, and his movements, through single frame animation, are inter-cut with live action" PSA Journal, Aug. 1967, 36.

Behind the Headlines

Date produced: 1967

Filmmaker(s):

L. L. Woosley

Black Book and Camera

Date produced: 1967

Filmmaker(s):

Rose Dabbs

Stuart Dabbs

Description:

"Black Book and Camera has good old George, you know George, photographing all the pretty lassies at the World's Fair. He then asks for their names and addresses so that he can send them a photo. Wouldn't a black book full of names and addresses be worth a pretty penny? W-e-l-l. . . George gets a lot of pretty pictures, but as for those names and addresses. . ." PSA Journal, Aug. 1967, 37.

Child’s Introduction to the Cosmos, A

Date produced: 1967

Filmmaker(s):

Hal Barwood

Description:

"A Child's Introduction to the Cosmos is a humorous attempt to describe, in child language, what the Cosmos must be like. Actually, the charm of this film comes in its telling. Somehow the message doesn't matter too much" PSA Journal, Aug. 1967, 37.
